Welcome to the World, Little Wickemeyer

Some sessions feel like work, and some feel like being invited into something special. My time with the Wickemeyer family was the second kind.

This sweet family just welcomed their newest little one, and I had the joy of photographing all five of them together for the very first time. From the moment we started, the love between them was easy to see. Nobody had to be told to snuggle in. They just did. Big brother checked on his sister, big sister couldn't stop kissing the baby, and Mom and Dad couldn't stop smiling at each other. That kind of connection can't be posed, and it shows in every frame.

Mom, Dad and the New Baby

There's nothing like the way a mama looks at her brand-new baby, or the way two parents look at each other when they realize their family just grew by one more.

The Best Big Siblings

The big kids completely stole my heart. Big sister brought her bunny everywhere and showered the baby with kisses. Big brother was gentle and proud, and he gave the best hugs. We ran through the garden, giggled on the stone steps, and picked flowers along the way.

Cozy Moments at Home

We finished on the porch and inside the house, where things slowed down and got cozy. Watching these two hold their new sibling for the first photos together was one of my favorite moments of the year.

Why I Believe in Photographing Your Family at Every Stage

Families change so fast. The tiny newborn in your arms today will be running through the garden with a stuffed bunny before you know it, and soon after that, taller than you. Here's why I encourage families to come back again and again:

  • Every season is worth remembering. Newborn snuggles, wild toddler years, missing-tooth grins, and teens who only hug you when no one's looking all go by quickly.
  • The newborn days go by fastest. Tiny toes, sleepy stretches and the way your older kids look at the baby for the first time only happen once.
  • You belong in the pictures too. Parents are usually behind the camera. A session puts you back in the story, so your kids will someday have photos of what it looked like to be loved by you.
  • Siblings grow up together. Photographing your kids at every stage shows how their bond grows, from the first time they hold the baby to inside jokes and best-friend hugs.
  • It's about connection, not perfection. You don't need matching outfits or perfectly behaved kids. I'm looking for the real moments, like the giggles, the cuddles and even the silly chaos. That's your family as it really is.
  • Prints become heirlooms. Phone photos get lost on hard drives. Printed photos on your walls remind your kids every day that they belong to something special.

Tips for Your Own Family Session

  • Coordinate, don't match. Choose two or three soft, complementary colors and add texture and pattern, like the Wickemeyers' blues, florals and plaid.
  • Bring the comfort item. A favorite stuffed animal (hello, bunny!) helps little ones relax and often ends up in the sweetest photos.
  • Book newborn sessions early. Reach out during pregnancy so we can save a spot for your baby's first couple of weeks.
  • Plan around naps and snacks. Happy kids make happy photos.
  • Let go of perfect. The best images often come right after something goes sideways.

Thank you, Wickemeyer family, for welcoming me into such a special season. Your love for each other made this session such a joy.

If you're ready to capture your own family, whether you're welcoming a newborn or chasing teenagers, I'd love to hear from you!
