A Golden Fall Proposal in Stowe, Vermont Ryan & Sydney

Some proposals just come with the perfect backdrop, and Ryan & Sydney's had all of it. Rolling Vermont mountains, hillsides glowing orange and red, a moody October sky, and one very big question. I got to be there with my camera to watch it all unfold, and I'm still smiling about it. Proposals are some of my very favorite sessions, and this one was pure joy from start to finish.

Here's how this sweet fall proposal in Stowe went down.

The Question

With the foliage at absolute peak behind them, down went the knee. From where I was standing, the whole hillside looked like it was on fire with color. The kind of view you couldn't plan better if you tried. Then came the yes, and the biggest hug.

The Reaction

This is my favorite part of every proposal. Those first few minutes right after are pure, unfiltered emotion: hands over the mouth, a peek at the ring, a little disbelief, and then so much laughter. Ryan & Sydney held onto each other the whole time, foreheads together, grinning like nobody else was there. I just kept shooting.

Celebrating in the Fall Colors

Once the nerves settled, we headed out for a mini celebration session. A quick outfit change into a gorgeous navy dress, and we wandered through a meadow lined with maples in every shade of fall. There were twirls, hand-in-hand walks, and plenty of kisses. We finished under a huge old maple by a stone wall, with the mountains layered behind them. Very Vermont, and very them.

And of course, the ring got its own little moment too.

Why Capture Your Proposal?

A proposal lasts a few minutes, but it's one of those memories you'll want to relive forever. Having it photographed means:

  • You get to see your partner's real reaction, the part you're usually too nervous to notice in the moment
  • You can stay fully present instead of worrying about phones and timers
  • You walk away with relaxed, joyful portraits to share with family and friends (hello, engagement announcement!)
  • Your story is told start to finish, from the nervous walk-up to that first big hug

Tips for Planning a Stowe Proposal

  • Talk to me early. I'll help you pick a spot and figure out where I can hide so it stays a total surprise.
  • Think about timing. Fall foliage in Stowe usually peaks from late September to mid October, and the light is softest late in the afternoon.
  • Plan a second outfit. A quick change after the yes gives your portraits a whole new feel.
  • Stay for the celebration. Adding a short session afterward is where the fun, candid, laughing photos happen.
  • Don't worry about posing. I'll guide you the whole way. Sessions with me are easy, relaxed and all about real connection.

Ryan & Sydney, thank you so much for letting me be part of such a special day. Congratulations, you two!
